Seeking Divine Guidance in the Homebuying Journey

“Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

- Matthew 6:31-33

These Scriptures reminds us not to fret over our basic needs like food, drink and what to wear but rather encourages us to focus on seeking God's presence in our lives. We should not worry about what we shall eat and what we shall drink, and I also believe God is challenging us not to worry about where we shall live but to seek Him. Seeking here doesn't refer to a physical quest, but rather the pursuit of a relationship with Him. Seek God like you would seek a job if you didn't have one and you will see the miraculous happen in your life. As we seek God or pursue Him, God draws near to us. He responds with his presence, his blessing, and his power.

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.”

- James 1:5-6

I believe we can go to the throne of God with any issues or questions about life decisions. When you get God involved in your day-to-day decision-making process, life will be much smoother. He wants to be involved in all your decisions, including what home to buy, what realtor to pick, what lender to go with. All these components are important, and you want clear guidance from the One who see’s and knows everything.

As you can see it's not only acceptable, but it’s encouraged to seek God's guidance when it comes to the significant decision of purchasing a home. Questions about where to live, which neighborhood, city, school district, or what style of home are all valid to ask in prayer. Even though our Heavenly Father already knows our desires and needs, He instructs us to ask, as Matthew 6:8 reminds us, "for your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him." It's in our asking that God begins to work in our lives.

It's important to note that seeking God's guidance in prayer isn't about treating Him like a genie in a bottle, where we make three wishes and expect instant results. Instead, it's about bringing our desires and concerns to Him, as Psalm 37:4 encourages us to delight ourselves in the Lord, and he will give us the desires of our heart. If you desire a home, seek Him. If you're grappling with questions like whether to buy or sell now, which realtor to hire, or how much to spend, turn to the Almighty God who knows all things. He is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning, and the end simultaneously, so why not seek His wisdom and guidance?

In conclusion, while seeking God's guidance, it's essential to ensure that you are truly seeking a relationship with Him and not just the things you desire. Serving God is a two-way relationship; He loves you and is willing to bless you, but we must also serve Him. Embrace God’s presence in your life and let Him be a part of the homebuying process, and you'll find it to be a more fulfilling and pleasant journey. Give it a try!

Prayer for the Homebuying Journey

Lord, I ask for your divine direction. Lord, order my steps in this process. You know the desires of my heart, and I trust that you will show me the right path, the place where you want me to live. Please open my eyes to the possibilities that align with your will and purpose for my life. I also seek your guidance in choosing the right realtor and lender for this journey. Lead me to the individuals who will not only provide expertise but also share my values and vision for this home. Help me make wise decisions that will lead to a smooth and successful transaction. Lord, I place my trust in you, believing that you will put all the puzzle pieces together. You see the bigger picture, and I know that your plan is perfect. Grant me the patience and faith to follow your lead, even when the path is unclear. I commit this homebuying process into your hands Lord, and I trust that with your guidance, everything will fall into place according to your divine plan. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
